Our Story…
K. Schlegel Fruit Farm, LLC is a fifth-generation family farm located in Dalmatia, Pennsylvania, thirty miles north of Harrisburg and overlooking the east shore of the Susquehanna River. It has been operating as farm since 1932 and has approximately 50 acres in fruit production, growing over 70 varieties of apples, 18 varieties of white and yellow peaches, donut peaches, strawberries, sweet and sour cherries, apricots, apriums, white and yellow nectarines, plums, pluots, grapes, pears, sweet corn, strawberries, and more! The farm also offers fresh pressed apple cider, raw apple cider vinegar, and various types of homemade applesauce, apple butter, and jams.
Since 2004, K. Schlegel Fruit Farm, LLC has employed advanced Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods for growing its produce. With the assistance of scientists at Penn State, the farm fully implemented the IPM approach by 2009 and became one of only 14 orchards in Pennsylvania to use this groundbreaking research, which involves the use of mating disruption in place of conventional pesticides.
By using IPM, the farm has reduced its pesticide usage by up to 80% and eliminated the use of harmful pesticides such as organophosphates, carbamates, and pyrethroids, using only reduced-risk and organic pesticides when necessary. The farm is 3rd Party IPM Certified and a member of Eco Apple, a Massachusetts-based organization dedicated to sustainable growing methods.
